Well, my games of Ebay Roulette came back to bite me last night.

My low ball bid on a seemingly excellent Zeiss Option 50/1.5 Sonnar wasn't low enough.

Now what should I do?

You and your playful bids, Ralph... :) The come and bite you in the back! :D That's how by following your example I once won an Elmarit 135/2.8 with an engraved barrel. $40 later it's in my bag, with goggles corrected and working very well.

What happened to the ten bucks in your account? Wasn't it last week? Or was it two?

Anyway... you seem to have a gift at these things. I'd get the lens, enjoy it and later sell it here. How's that?

Good point, the $10 is still in my paypal account so that is bonus.

The lens is CRF mount, I may have to keep it.

I am thinking with a shoe box, duct tape I can fashion up a decent little body for it.

Get a Kiev to use it on.

It is a fine lens. It makes for a great existing light portrait lens. I keep mine on a Nikon S2.

You can always sell it here!

I wonder who else from RFF is on Scherer's list?

I don't plan on getting a Contax in my hands until 2007.

I am hoping to have a newly refurbished Contax IIa CD with f2 Sonnar brighten a cold Canadian Winter. Okay, at least arrive before Summer.

Scherer's List?

Sounds like Schindler's... But I know it has nothing to do with it.

Is it for a ZI?

dexdog

no, it is the waiting list for service by Contax repair ace Henry Scherer, of zeisscamera.com

Ralph, If you want to get rid of it, I'll be buying a Kiev soon and might be able to find a home for it... :)

You know, you could save yourself incredible time and $$$ and just do the work yourself. The IIa isn't that complex of a camera, no matter what people say.

I'm No. 3 of my list (an anniversary IIa), waiting behind a Vito III and a National Graflex Series II that now needs a shutter curtain replacement.

I'll be selling my Scherer-serviced Contax IIIa soon - I need to fund my latest GAS attack (Bronica RF645). The Contax is in wonderful condition and even has a new light meter cell. Before I sell it, though, I'm sending it back to Henry to fix one of the support lugs - it wiggles slightly. He said it's a very quick fix and won't take long. One other fix I'm about to have done - SK Grimes is going to clean up the threads a bit on the front of my 50/15 Sonnar so that filters go on a bit more smoothly.

I must be crazy fixing these little things on a camera that I will sell soon. Oh well, I really have enjoyed the camera!

what's a Zeiss Option? ;)

I'm #55 on The List with my IIa and 50/1.5 Sonnar.. it's an outstanding lens, rover.. right up there with a DR Summicron, IMO.. get a Kiev 4a for it and see for yourself

Henry has a IIa of mine -- I must be near the end of the list for this one.

I may kill myself for asking, but....when you are ready to sell, let me know how much you would like for it. I actually had thoughts of picking up a beater IIIa to play with for now. When my IIa arrived from Henry I was going to send in the IIIa.

I like the buying program he offers because financially I can bit off the bill in little pieces.

Zeiss Option is the marking of a post war West German Zeiss lens. Blah, blah, blah, long story, East vs West Germany, yadda, yadda, yadda.

East German lenses are marked Carl Zeiss Jena.

And yes, I am considering a Kiev too.

The Zeiss Option. Sounds like a Spy Thriller.

Zeiss Opton. Sounds like a Ray Gun.

I thought it was "Opton". Well, consider yourself very lucky. I almost succumbed to the lure of a whole Voigtlaender Prominent package with a 35 skopar and a 50 1.5 Nokton, with lens shades, leather cases, the whole shebang; all clean and operational... $450. Too high or too low?

rover
09-29-2005, 18:32
It is Opton, I have had a bit of wine tonight.

But, with a CRF of course I will eventually get a bit of GAS and have to buy a Prominent to Contax adaptor for a 50 Ulton and/or Nokton.

I have just joined Henry's list today for my IIIa. He reckons that I am about 5 months out - time enough to save?!

ZeissFan

Five months? That's way too long. I could have that thing done in five hours. Of course, I don't have a long line of people waiting for a restoration job.

Hi guys,

I am sadly having to sell three Henry'd Contax 11a bodies, with sundry lenses, all Henry's as well, because I cannot afford to keep two systems going. I also have a CV R2C with trigger wind that takes the Contax lenses. Also in the collection up for sale, I have a "No Name" Kiev, plus viewfinders etc.

As I have gone totally digital for my work, I can't find it in me to return to film, so I would like all these fine and refurbished works of Henry's art to go to good homes - at the right price. I don't know how one leaves e-mail addresses here securely, but I will do so anyway so if anyone would like to ask me anything about the details of this offer, write to me at robinadshead@aol.com

Albest, from Hawyeye34.

Would that I had the money for the R2C. It's would complement my Kievs and III quite nicely. But not this time. Good luck with your sales, Hawyeye34!

Rover - I will sell a few lenses before I decide if I can part with my IIIa (35/2.8 post-war Biogon and 135/4.0 Sonnar are now available, both have been Henryed). And I want to fix the two little problems taht I mentioned. But I will give you the first option on it.

Hawkeye, I would be interested in 35mm, 21mm and 85mm finders if you have any. Don't need any turret finders, already have a couple. I might even be interested in one of those goofy clip-on 85mm/135mm finders.

I think the name's Opton, not Option. Saw it yesterday in the website.

These cameras sound interesting... Hmmm...

Hi dexdog,

Yes, I have viewfinders for 35, 21 and 85mm lenses, but am loth to sell them separaetly - they will most likely have to go with the lenses in question. And, yes - I HAVE one of those "goofy clip-on 85/135mm finders", and it's for sale.

The response to all this has taken me a bit by surprise, on a very busy weekend here in Spain, and we have guests, so I can't be in the office too long. I am working on the list with prices, and will publish it as soon as I can. Sorry not to be any further forward, but I hope everyone's patience will be rewarded.

Of course, going through all this hard-put-together kit makes me very nostalgic, and wondering if hanging on to a bit of film gear might not be the way to go... I'll have to see the response to the prices I am asking.
