View Full Version : If you'd sell x100 what would you buy?

Hi

I am in love with my X100 but I am still curious to wether there's a camera alike but with a faster working system. The X100 starts focussing after a second of I-dont-know-what-ing... It's like its coming out of sleep mode and than start to react to what you want.

I dont want to talk about this issue in this topic because there are too many about it already. Just tell me what camera alike would be a better choice.

Not looking for a 7D, 5D etc. I sold mine, I want a rangefinder (like) camera. I'f I'd sell this camera I'd prob get 800€ for it. Adding 300€ is doable ...

Fuji X Pro 1?

that's twice the money (and I'm not sure if that system works faster).

I don't think a reasonable alternative exists in the same price range (even with your additional 300). They all come with compromises and for me, the X100 provides the best balance of those compromises. The only other relatively small camera with a built in optical VF and largish sensor that I can think of is the new Canon G1X, but the VF is somewhat compromised.

The G1x looks to candy for me, too much like a toy. Especially with the fold out lcd screen. It's what I expected actually, that there are no alternatives for the x100... even the pro1 has changeable lenses, something I expect to compensate the image quality.

The X100 is a unique camera with no true peers at its price. Prior to it I used the Leica X1. The Panasonic GF1 and whatever the new model is called will have very fast AF.

Looks like I will be keeping Her since there really is No Other Digi I have in Mind

As hot as the X100 was/is, I am amazed at the price level I am seeing on the used market. I see this a a trend as the technology keeps rolling at a extremely fast pace. Gotta go, now should I shoot my M6 or Nikon F today?

As strange as this may sound to some, I've been thinking about selling mine and buying an RD-1. Probably won't do it though. I've had my eye on an M8 for a long time now. Hope I can fund one with some decent glass some time this year.

imo you will not find any AF digi cam that will yield the kind of gorgeous files, spot on color fidelity and amazing low light/high iso you get from the x100. none, nada, nowhere.

i know you dont want to discuss slow AF here, but quickly i do not have that problem. in anything but the most difficult lighting situations my X focuses more quickly than i can manually focus with any other camera, digi, RF or slr. if you do not find the same, perhaps something is wrong with the cam or its not being used optimally. if it is the same, then really you should try to just enjoy the brilliant results youre getting, happy in the knowledge that your 'slow' X is getting to shots more quickly than a $6000 M9.

About 75% of used price no? This is quite normal for used cameras.

Within that budget you could find a minty Epson R-d1s in Japan -where the best preserved R-D1's are to be found.

If you wanted to buy another system that's rangefinder-like you could always buy yourself an RD-1 with that amount of money... nothing's more rangefinder-like than an actual rangefinder!

But finding a replacement for the X100 seems impossible right now. Well, unless you count the X10. My ex has one of those and she's having a lot of fun with it... great photos too :)

I stopped using my X100 for a while, finding the AF a bit too inaccurate at times. But I just picked it up again yesterday when my M8 ran out of batteries, and I fell in love with it again. No other digital camera I've ever used could produce such beautiful images. Plus, it's got a sexy body to boot!

I can focus my Leica M2 with 35mm Summicron very quickly.

it focusses fast enough.. it takes about a 'minute' to get from sleep mode to activity.

Well, those Nikon cameras were all in demand and had supply issues at times. The M9 is a Leica...Leicas always do better resale wise. You are starting to see some M9s sell for 75% these days. Once the Fuji supply caught up with demand, it is bound to be selling at normal used prices.

whats your point? you can easily zone focus with the x100, ive done it. 'zone' focusing is actually NOT focusing at all, isnt it? therefore it has nothing to do with comparing AF vs manual focus speeds.

jaimiepeeters
01-26-2012, 07:35
people stop talking about focussing, because focussing is not the issue, its the camera getting ready TO focus is what's taking so long.

There's a setting that makes it wake faster (most of the time) - I forget what it is, you'll have to charge your battery slightly more often but it.

I'm waiting to see what the new Olympus is like and the Fuji X-Pro 1. One of those will probably replace the X100.

Based on a few quick, unscientific tests. My X100 takes about 6.5 to 7.5 seconds to go from Off/Sleep though focus lock to capture. No not the fastest times in the world but no where near a "minute"

I wonder if you have developed a problem. Mine was quite quick to fire up but, now it is suddenly very sluggish.
Like up to 30 seconds sluggish regardless of battery condition.
Focus is normal once it wakes.
Have you considered it's Tune up time?
There really is no replacement for this camera other than this camera.
Sure you could get a different camera but, it would not be an x100.

You need to make sure you have OVF power save mode set to off and quick start mode set to on. Mine wakes up quite quickly - just a few seconds.

I doubt you can get an RD1 from Japan for anywhere near 1100 euros - I haven't seen one.

Just checked my wake up time - 2 seconds max.

It's quite well-established that the x100's start-up time is badly affected by formatting the SD card in a computer (especially a MAC, I believe), and this can result in a start-up time in excess of 15 seconds. The SD card must be formatted in the camera, in order to avoid the problem. The start-up time should be around two seconds. There's a thread on this on x100forum.com (http://www.x100forum.com/index.php?/topic/1161-slow-startup/).

It may be really hard to sell for that when new ones are available in the classifieds here for $999.95.

I'm with you.. I was in love with my x100 for a while, but now i'm pretty much in 'like' with it.. all because of focus issues.

I probably won't sell mine, but if I did get another camera.. well, I can't think of anything else i'd rather have since nothing else really has an optical viewfinder with manual controls along with the same kinda IQ.. I mean, semi-affordable anyway (M9 is too expensive).. i'd probably just keep shooting film with my M6 or other various cameras

Considering all of the cameras I've tried since purchasing the X100, I would say that my answer is an unqualified, "None!" (My wife threatened whimsical consumption at Neiman Marcus if I even think about buying another camera before 2012 has concluded)

Granted, but I would think most would have access to Amazon which sells it within $30 of that price. This could make the selling of a used one at a higher price fairly difficult.

When the X1 is sleeping, you know it because the lens retracts. One click and it wakes up and is ready to go in less than a second. Other than that, it's on and ready. No lag between pressing the shutter halfway and it starting to focus. Something to think about as used X1s are now cheaper than ever.

When I posted I thought I had seen one from Amazon proper for $1030 or so. It could have been this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005IGE7NC/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

There are others with it less than $1100 - http://www.42photo.com/pd-productid-106193-k-fuji_x100_123_megapixel_digital_camera.htm
