Introducing the Fujifilm Finepix X-Pro1 Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera. The camera that the Fujifilm Finepix X100 was built to eventually become, this camera elevates photography to new levels and captures the horizon of digital photography in this new era of technology.
Clearly demonstrating the aesthetic refinements of successful film cameras of bygone eras like the classic Leica M3 and the Olympus Pen F, the retro-styling and all metal construction calls out to the photographer to be carried and shown the world. Not only does it urge the beholder to explore the world through it’s lens, the Fuji X-Pro1 delivers unparalleled performance suitable to make images of all types to be captured effectively and beautifully. From the studio to the street and into the jungle, this camera is made to perform above and beyond all expectations.
With Fujifilm’s revolutionary new 16MP X-Trans sensor colors have never been more accurately represented in the digital realm. Tossing away the typical Bayer filter pattern used by every sensor on the market, Fuji went back to basics and examined how our eyes interpret color and light as well as captured the beauty of film’s color range through the randomness of natural color. With this new approach you can finally say goodbye to the traditional digital hindrances of colour moire and anti-aliasing filters and hello to real and natural color representation. Combined with Fuji’s EXR processing power, this makes for film-like quality and resolution with no loss of the conveniences and advances of digital. With this duo there is a vast array capture modes available, including simulated film emulsions of Fujifilm’s famous lineup: From Astia to Velvia and every other emulsion in between, this camera can effectively simulate them all with the new X-Trans technology.
Also building upon the successful Fujifilm X100, this camera also sports the world-renowned Hybrid OVF/EVF Viewfinder with a new twist. To allow for interchangeable lenses to be efficiently used, the viewfinder has undergone a serious remodel and is now a Multi-Viewfinder. Still able to switch between optical and electronic view modes, the optical view mode now sports programmable framelines for effective use of any focal length. Along with the standard viewfinder with a 0.60x viewing area, the Multi Viewfinder gets it’s name from the additional optic that can switch the viewfinder to a 0.37x viewing area for wide angle lenses.
The camera also brings a new mount system to the table, named the X-Mount. This new mount is not just for a new system’s sake, this new mount improves upon existing designs to maximize the new sensor’s capabilities. It adopts a short flange distance of just 17.7mm, resulting in the rear elements of any lens mounted to the Fuji X-Pro1 being as close as technically possible to the sensor. This means there is nearly no back focus in the design and creates the sharpest image possible all the way to the edges of the frame.
To pair with the new mount there will be 3 launch lenses offered with the Fuji X-Pro1: the 18mm F2, 35mm F1.4 and the 60mm F2.4 Macro (which offers 0.5x magnification). These lenses are the 35mm equivalents to 27mm, 53mm, and 90mm, respectively.
The menu system has also undergone a massive redesign, with overall simplification of the user interface and a new system of navigation and settings buttons to match. A more simplified 4 way navigation button set and an enlarged “Menu” button, along with a new “Q” button to access the most used shooting mode tweaks, Fuji has seriously reconsidered the photographer’s experience with the X-Pro1 and made sure that it will be as enjoyable and usable as possible.

Is the $100 deposit refundable if one decides to cancel an order?
That is a good question, it sounds like it is non-refundale to me.
It doesn't sound either way, we should wait for clarification. Here's the text:
This page is for the pre-order of the Fujifilm Finepix X-Pro1 Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera Body Only with a tenative release date of the end of February. We are taking a minimal deposit as we do not have a confirmed price point for this camera yet, but there is a projected price range of $1200~$1700 for the body only. We will notify all deposit and waitlist customers once we have a confirmed price (Should be announced the end of January). Purchase of the Priority Deposit will guarantee your place in line, with the item being yours after completing the purchase (minus this $100 deposit). We will contact you to complete the sale once we have a camera become available for your place in line. The Waiting List option will place you on the waiting list for this item and those customers will be sold the Fujifilm Finepix X-Pro1 Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera Body Only on a first come first served basis after the Priority Deposit customers.

The deposits are refundable, sorry for not noting that already. Fixing it in the copy right now.
Sorry to ask. Do I have to pay sales tax for purchases when shipped to CA?
PrecisionCamera

No, you will not have to pay sales tax if you live outside of TX.
So how many Waitlist and Deposits did you guys get so far?
PrecisionCamera
01-12-2012, 11:10
Looks like 8 deposits so far, and 0 waitlist. Next is number 9. Cue The Beatles...
And just to mention, although we anticipate having a nice list of people awaiting cameras, during the X100 craze we were able to keep the orders coming almost consistently. Apparently someone with Fuji's distributor likes us!

If it weren't so expensive, I would be interested too. But for the price I've heard, I could get a Nikon D 700.

There is no question that if you like DSLRs, they are the better value. For those of us who don't like DSLRs, thankfully cameras like the X-Pro1 are coming out.
I agree, I'm glad that camera companies are coming out with so many choices now.

Good to hear...
We already had people placing pre-orders for up to 10 cameras, so we said "thanks, but no."
Although Fuji is anticipating a much larger consumer base than was considered for the X100, so they should be able to provide more than enough cameras for everyone... Maybe we should just let these saps buy a ton to sit on for months... :P
Realistically though, no one should be paying over retail for the X-Pro1 past the first few days. Give it 2 weeks past release and there should be no reason to pay 2x on eBay when we'll have them in stock for retail. (I do not have a crystal ball about this, just my guess)

Your feelings are justified. Anytime that a new product that is sought after by a portion of the consumer population is released, there are plenty of people who buy with only the intent to resell above face value. It's part of nature of the capitalist market: heighten demand, lower supply, raise the price through the roof.
Just a friendly warning to anyone itching to get their hands on one, a few days of patience and you'll be able to buy the other lenses to go with the camera rather than just an over-priced body.
Or save yourself the heartache and buy through us! :)

How is the new flash (EF-X20) different from the existing EF-20 flash which will still be marketed?

As far as I can tell, there is nothing different about it, just that the styling matches the camera line it was made for. That might be why they are holding off on releasing it...

Just wanted to point out that as I understand it the X will not pivot for bounce, nor does it have a bounce card. It does have direct control (via dial) of manual power in 6 steps and Auto TTL comp in 1/3 step increments. Vs the -20 just adjusting ev in 1/2 steps -1 to +1 via cycling through with the push button.
Same GN on both I believe.
Thinking about getting on the waitlist..wish the Amazon Payments option included Amazon gift cards as payment.
Any word about a 24mm lens? (35mm equivalent)

Unfortunately your giftcard cannot be used for those payments. It is not really a payment to Amazon, just verified through them for fraud prevention services. It is solely a transaction handled through us which is why you cannot use that card. Sorry for the inconvenience.

2013 has been the word ever since they introduced the X-Pro1. Since that is the focal length of the X100, they will probably be holding off for a bit to sell down some of that stock before introducing an equivalent lens. Here is a page (http://www.fujifilm-x-pro1.com/fujilfilm-x-pro1-x-lens-lens-roadmap-2012-and-2013-revealed/) that has the roadmap image and you can see the standard lenses will be coming next year.

It is a given, Fuji's pricing kind of surprised all of us, myself especially. I was really expecting the kit price to be where the body only price is now. However, it is understandable when you look at what all has been put into the camera. It is not just an X100 with a removable lens now. Serious work has been put into the entire camera, from the new sensor tech to the new OVF/EVF down to their mount choice. Everything screams of a painstakingly attentive eye for detail and useability, and their price really can reflect that well. Greedy? Not really. Stepping up the game and having to cover that cost? Yes.

I really don't understand the concept of "greedy" when it comes to pricing new cameras or other electronics. No one is forced to buy the X Pro 1 to survive.
If the price is too high for the value, people will buy something else. There are many many competitors in the camera business.
Fuji is greedy for $1,700, but Leica was amazing when the M9 was only $7,000, because it was less than the price of the Nikon D3x.

Like digitalintrigue has stated, it looks like the release date will be closer to the end of this month. We already have the batteries and filters and 1 charger, but they are waiting to send us anything else until the lenses arrive state side. Apparently the bodies are here in country and awaiting shipment, but since it is a new mount they don't want to ship anything without a lens to match. Have you tried focusing this way yet? I'm curious what people are finding using the magnification of the EVF.
Is it a picture in a picture style view or does the entire EVF magnify?
Lately I have been reading about Magic lantern firmware for the 5Dii.

It would be cool to see fuji grab the reins and do some similar innovation for their new baby.

I agree that Christian shouldn't be apologizing, but Fuji has done a horrible job in communicating, which is shaking at least my confidence in them. Someone digitialintrigue knows has told them end of the month, but Fuji hasn't widely communicated that.
Adorama has no idea when to expect the camera, Amazon has no idea, and my local camera store that carries Fuji has no idea either. It's not that Fuji says "we are looking at a window of March 26th to April 7th". Camera stores talk to Fuji reps and the Fuji reps tell them "We have no estimate of delivery."
If the camera is supposedly coming in 9 days (end of the month) why do retailers have no clue?
It's not like there is a tsumnai this year which would legitimately disrupt any schedule. I deal with products which have lead times of 22 months. We get schedules with a expected delivery, 22 months in the future. When delivery is within a month, we know what the delivery day is. If there is a issue and delivery slips, we get notified.

Still no word on availability on the camera and lenses, we are anticipating them by the end of the month.
I am sure this wait for you guys feels like that scene from The Empire Strikes Back where Vader tells Lando "Pray I do not alter the deal any further," and I am truly sorry on behalf of our company and Fuji for the delays guys.
More updates to be posted as they come.
Really good pricing! In Canada the battery is $100 and the grip is $150.

I agree that Christian shouldn't be apologizing, but Fuji has done a horrible job in communicating, which is shaking at least my confidence in them. Someone digitialintrigue knows has told them end of the month, but Fuji hasn't widely communicated that.
I'm not sure any company ever comes out and gives exact dates they expect all retailers to have stock. How do you expect Fuji to communicate this?
Adorama has no idea when to expect the camera, Amazon has no idea, and my local camera store that carries Fuji has no idea either. It's not that Fuji says "we are looking at a window of March 26th to April 7th". Camera stores talk to Fuji reps and the Fuji reps tell them "We have no estimate of delivery." If the camera is supposedly coming in 9 days (end of the month) why do retailers have no clue?
Perhaps you are talking to the wrong people at the retailers? or Fuji USA hasn't received the cameras from the boat (and cannot relay the info to retailers yet)? or maybe they are taking an under-promise and over-deliver approach to estimated dates?
It's not like there is a tsumnai this year which would legitimately disrupt any schedule. I deal with products which have lead times of 22 months. We get schedules with a expected delivery, 22 months in the future. When delivery is within a month, we know what the delivery day is. If there is a issue and delivery slips, we get notified.
Fuji is still on schedule for making its estimated date. This isn;t worth getting worked up over.

Have you tried focusing this way yet? I'm curious what people are finding using the magnification of the EVF.
Is it a picture in a picture style view or does the entire EVF magnify?
Lately I have been reading about Magic lantern firmware for the 5Dii.
These guys are writing focus peaking, Picture in Picture, all sorts of neeto-keeno gadgets for the big eos.
It would be cool to see fuji grab the reins and do some similar innovation for their new baby.
Here is some anecdotal evidence from my X100 experience.
Before firmware 1.2 the EVF zoom was useless (for me) for focusing because the magnification was too low. I could use it for macro work with a tripod because it was ok to fiddle.
After the 1.2 firmware the ~5X zoom is very useful for manual focusing. Now it seems the same as my Lumix G1 worked.
Let's hope the XP1 has a similar zoom factor.

While it is true that most camera releases do not have specific country-wide launch dates that everyone can point to, generally the manufacturer at least creates a target release week and tries to meet that. If they cannot meet those goals, they let people know what the hold up is or at least say there is one.
Not that Fuji isn't working overtime to get these cameras out to us, but they also have had nearly no communication with their reps or dealers on what to expect. It's all pretty much hearsay with the X-Pro1 on release dates at this time.
The only update so far had to be squeezed out of Fuji, and all that was is to tell us we have to wait for the lenses to get stateside before anything ships. At the same time, they sent us the batteries charger and filters with no forewarning.
It is just an awkward situation for dealers and their customers.
I cannot wait to get these in finally and start filling all these orders that are on the books!

I have. The zoom function takes up the whole screen. I've found it very easy to focus this way. It's very apparent when the image comes into focus, and to me, was as easy as when MF with any SLR. The only issue I have so far with it is MF'g while in powersave mode in low light. When dark, I can't see the details of the subject well enough to know when I'm in sharp focus, as (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, anyone) the aperture is not auto-adjusting to the poor lighting conditions to brighten up the LCD/EVF. B/C of this, the LCD image can be pretty dark...UNTIL you half press the shutter. This resets the LCD/EVF and then you have to re-engage the zoom assist. This can be frustrating.
I am not sure if it behaves this way when powersave is off, but I'll check tonite. Now that I'm writing this, I wonder ....
Ok, it worked. When zooming for MF'g, you can depress AF-L and it will lock without kicking you out of zoom mode. BUT (it's very sunny here today, as Christian can attest, and I can't check how that affects LCD/scene brightness till I get home and can control the lighting better.

Just to point out quickly, those are Canadian cameras with Canadian warranties. This is great news for our Canadian members, but you will want the U.S. warranty if you are a U.S. RFFer when the time comes (hopefully never, but things happen) for any maintenance or service.

We had word from Fuji they would be here by the end of this week. All of our regular shipments are in for the day, so unless they sent it as special freight deliveries (which they might have, if the allocations are what we are hoping for) we will be seeing them Monday. Hopefully we can get the first full round turned around from receipt of shipment to closing of our receiving department (a span of about 4 hours) on Monday.
What is going to take time is contacting everyone, selecting shipping methods, and completing payments in order to get them out for delivery. So please, if you are anticipating a camera then, be looking out for emails or a call from a 512 area code. We want you to get them nearly as much as you want to receive them! I pray for the smoothest possible transactions to expedite it for everyone.

Alright folks, let the hilarity of the situation settle upon you:
So I confused the first bit of tracking information I received showing a delivery for tomorrow with what I had actually received today. I just received the tracking information for the shipment that has already arrived. So, I was confused and thought the shipment with the 18mm had arrived early, when in fact it was the shipment without the 18mm lenses. The good news in all of this, is we are receiving even more cameras tomorrow. We are also implementing our new website tonight, so between these pre-orders, the website launch, and me being alone here today, I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information.
This does mean we will fulfill about half of our pre-orders by tomorrow afternoon!
I'll be calling the majority of you in between now and tomorrow afternoon, so be looking for a 512 number ringing on your line. :D
Whatever will be, will be:)
I knew I was late to the game on that.

I was hearing that there were some stateside, but due to some production issue they were recalled and now they have fixed what ever the problem was. Should be the end of this month. More and more accessories are coming in, so we should see full stock on everything X-Pro1 by the beginning of May.
