View Full Version : Red dot on an M8.2?

I've been thinking of getting an M8 for a while, but now I'm leaning towards an M8.2 due to the quieter shutter. However, I have one small, stupid, estetical concern: Is it possible to replace the black leica dot on the black M8.2 with a red one? If so, is it difficult and where do I get a red dot?

I have a black m8.2 and would like to do the same as well as I prefer the classic leica look better. I think you can twist the dot off but I don't really know where u can get replacement ones.

Leica themselves will sell a Red Dot as a spare part I believe. It is a relatively easy replacement. If you were going the other way (red dot to black), DAG sells the black dots.

Inexpensive red & black Leica logos can be had at Leitax. com (http://www.leitax.com/Accesories-for-Leica-M-cameras5.html).

Suggest you take the black dot off very carefully. Most folks want to go the other way, & would be happy to have your black one. The red dot isn't 'classic,' just showy – it doesn't appear on older Leicas, MPs, M9Ps.

(Or maybe you want a red dot so you can put black tape over it? :D)

What's less showy than making an M8.2 look like a standard M8?:-) I'll consider the black tape suggestion as well.:-))

Anyway: I guess I'll see when I get the camera if the urge disappears within a few weeks. Thanks for tips from you other guys, it's nice to know that I have the option.
