By way of explanation... the man leaning on the car has caught a Red-flanked Bluetail for ringing/banding and is showing it to assembled birders before release.

By way of explanation... the man leaning on the car has caught a Red-flanked Bluetail for ringing/banding and is showing it to assembled birders before release.

Why did those three (four ?) people use binoculars to see something 7 feet away?

Yes, bird fashion styles haven't changed much over the years...;-)
Why did those three (four ?) people use binoculars to see something 7 feet away?
Ha Ha! Yes, a bit farther away than that, but yes. 8x or 10x magnification at such close range is mindblowing. More detail than you can see with a naked eye up close (like a magnifying glass). Plus standing back allows others to see. Looks funny though!
