I feel a bit hesitant to post this here but whatdaheck, here it goes anyway. :)

I started my own photography-related blog! My limited amount of photographic knowledge didn't hold me back and the result is now out at:

Shards of Photography (http://shardsofphotography.blogspot.com)

For kicks and giggles there's also a small contest: choose the Top10 photos of all times.

There's a small prize involved as well: a free 1 year subscription to Aperture magazine.

But you have to do something special to win this prize. You have to come up with the most creative list of entrants. Originality, independent thought and historic research will, for once, be awarded.

Sign up for the newsletter and get all the information you'll need. The contest and vote closes midnight 31 December, 2005.

I haven't experienced any problems connecting to the site.
Perhaps, temporarily, it was slow.

Nice site! Even loads fast on dial-up. Quite a bit there for a new site, I'll be checking back.

No, they're not, Brett. :)
As it is, the Kiev has a roll in it and I even shot a few shots with it already. But other, more pressing matters interfer with my photography time. Hopefully this weekend I can get a few shots again and finish the roll. I'm eager to see the results. Must take some shots of the Kiev with the 300D as well.

The Kiev looks very nice. It's much smaller than I expected but I love the design, the shape, the heft, and the hold of the camera. Wonderful camera. It'll definitely get a nce place in my new house.

The respons to the contest is quite good! I'm happy for that. Quite a few people have signed up for the news letter but others asked me to put up the rules on the blog. And I did. People will still be able to sign up for the newsletter to receive updates on the contest, the blog and such.

Hi, I check out your blog, and like it a lot. Is a ger similar to a yurt? I've been to most of the provinces that border mongolia in china, and most of the ethnic mongolian houses there look like yurts to me (I know, a bad term coming from the Kyrgyz word, but still useful nonetheless).

I love your blog and I bookmarked it. The Bogger site makes for decent architecture to put one together. I find my Funwithcameras site easy to update. Your navigation is simple and the photos posted show well.

Indeed, a ger is the same as a yurt. But ger is the word used in Mongolian, and the word I prefer. :) The word also means "house", the place that you call home. So gert luu yavie means "let's go home".

Any idea what the word (words?) is they use in China?

In Chinese, they don't have a specific word (that I've found); most people just call it "man gu de jia lou", which means "house of a Mongol". There is a word in Eastern Turkish (Uyghur) for it, but I forgot what it was :D
