My M6 has an annoying rattle noise in the rewind knob.

I guess there might be something that needs tightening there.
I have tried to open the plate (I have the clamps), but I seem to miss something...

I have removed:

the rewind knob and the slotted screw underneath
the speed dial
the hot shoe
the screw at the 12 o'clock position in the bayonet
the winding lever

The right side of the plate is still held by something.
There is that very thin ring around the hole in the plate under the winding lever, but I'm not sure it's not a part of the plate, and if it's not, it's really tight. Is that it, or something else??

Thanks!!:)

All M models have that retaining ring. Use a proper size clamp and turn counter-clockwise. If its too tight, touch it with a 2mm screwdriver dipped in WD40 or lighter fuel at 5-min intervals a few times. Then it should come loose easier. But it is usually "really" tight...

Hope this help.

Yes, remove the ring that is under the film advance lever. That ring may be tight, so, lubricate it and carefully remove it. Use a tool that fits properly. An improper tool, if it slips, can make a very ugly scratch in a very noticeable spot.

And, when you are removing the top plate, push the focus follower into the camera, as the top plate may rub into moving parts, when it is going upwards.
