I think there is a Photorama show this weekend in Chicago, Rolling Meadows? check the Photorama site, I know Igor will have about 3 tables, and if you catch him before he leaves, he might be able to bring something extra?

I actually just saw this on Craigslist...are these worth going to? Do they typically have some good stuff?

20 years back these shows were elbow to elbow. Today there are more dealers than customers. Very sad. I see an end pretty soon.

Heading there tomorrow :)

Good thing the date fell in sync with my trip here in Chicago :)

The camera show in Pasadena, California, is usually jam packed. Missed the Chicago show, was in town the other day.

For those that have been to these...are they typically worth going to? Cool gear, good prices, etc?

This one should be good, Igor has invited RFF members to stop by and say hello. Some shows are getting pretty quiet, I was at a show recently in Columbus that was on the first nice day of the Spring, and dealers were buying from dealers.

Am pretty sure Igor told me he was taking 3 tables or so of stuff, and you can always chat up some folks for stuff they have at home.

I think Abe Vinegar is running this one-- and if the show draws, you may see interesting stuff among the folks walking in.

There is an annual show coming up in August in Richfield, Ohio, sponsored by a local club, you should see some other than the "usual" suspects-- would like to hear from those who went if the Chicago one was a good one.

Sometimes you catch a dealer with something he just bought and wants to turn around quickly -- can be a good deal, as it represents a quick profit. A lot of trading between dealers goes on before the show.

A lot for me seems to be social these days, there are some jokers too.

It should attract some interesting dealers == as Chicago is a big city.

Well I went, and came home with something I didn't plan on...

It was a great show, I got there a bit late, but there was a lot of good stuff at very reasonable (and sometimes great) prices.

Nice! Looked at those Rolleis and they were really great! (2.8 planar is just WOW! :D )

There used to be an M4-P there too :)

Now it's on my table, just waiting for sunny weather and my LTM adapter and it will get a lot of use when I head downtown :)

Nice! You were obviously there before I was (I came late) as I didn't see an M4-P. I would have been tempted :)

Yes, the 2.8F is gorgeous. I also got the prism that was there and got a great deal on it. So far, I'm very happy!

I got there as soon as it opened.

Was supposed to get an M2 but when I was testing it, the framelines did not switch.

So Benji of Jack's camera just offered me the M4-P at a great price and I took it, I tested everything and It was working properly! :) [I have a limited budget on my trip here but If I didn't take it, I will regret it for life]

Can't wait to shoot!

Congrats on the good deal you got too! :D

Like I said before, more dealers than customers. This can not go on too much longer even if Sam Vinigar wants to do so. The dealers will not pay to travel and rent tables.

Thanks for putting up the evidence.

Ah yes, I recognized him. He seemed to be interested in my X100 I had with me.

In fact, I got about 10 inquiries about the X100! Someone there said I should have charged to let people see it :)

Thanks for coming and seeing us guys! I hope you enjoy your cameras. Not sure if we'll be back in the fall, but you can always check our inventory at jackscamera.com. By the way selloutboy, (sorry, I am bad with remembering names) I sent out your lens adapter and your dad's hood and filter today too. I found a used hood and just threw it in the box for no charge. Oh man, I think I told you I would put a manual for that camera in the box too, but I didn't remember until just now. If you want one, I'll send one out if I have one.
It was nice to meet both of you. I agree, there were a lot of dealers there, so it was really nice to meet a couple of younger guys who are excited about photography. Keep it up!

By the way, to whomever it was that walked away with the 35 Summicron from behind our table, you'll get what's coming to you!

Yikes! Someone swiped the Summicron? Good luck getting it back, that's a real bummer...

So far, the Rollei 2.8F is great. Used it right after I left the show and so far, so good!

His camera is the Best Camera in the Show IMHO :D but yeah, funny guy :D

@ditchwork
WOW! Thanks, really great service from you guys at Jack's Camera :)
I was actually with my uncle, but yeah, I appreciate everything! You are making this first Leica purchase of mine very memorable! :D No need to send a manual out-- Already found one online :) But I really appreciate this :)

Can't wait to produce stuff with the things we have purchased!

and yes, may a thousand flies bite the person who stole that summicron!

@PatrickT
Great Photo! it seems the camera follows what you want it to do! :D Keep on shooting!

I hate the thieves who prowl these shows, one will cross the wrong guy and get caught. I was watching a table for a friend when an F2 went missing, was pretty sure I knew who had it, but no one wants a law suit. He got it when we were changing places.

A lot of Minox's were lifted over the years, but I know Igor lost a huge Nikon Zoom in its box, which was behind the table so the guy had to plan that one, of course the rest of us have to make up the losses with our purchases.

If I watch a table, anything I think is a target goes to the back of the table.

Leaves a sour taste.

Was Igor's birthday last week, no cameras as gifts, but he looked a lot different 30 years ago in the Army, and yes, I believe he wants an X100. ;-)

Sorry about that.. I'm the handsome guy with the long hair above.

Patrick - I sent your invoice out today. Nice shot by the way. I love the Rollei look.

Selloutboy - If you don't have your package by now, it should be there tomorrow.

I might have a lead on the Summicron, but it's complicated. Its a lens that I bought there, but somehow didn't make it home with. There is still hope it will be found. We used to do a lot of shows and only a few things have been lifted over my watch. While setting up I don't let anyone touch anything until everything is in a nice organized grid so I can see a hole if something is missing. The dealers get mad, but we're there to sell to photographers, not dealers.

Right, even though it does have that Rollei look, I'm going to have to give some credit to her parents too. The photographer and camera can only do so much..

"Like I said before, more dealers than customers. This can not go on too much longer even if Sam Vinigar wants to do so. The dealers will not pay to travel and rent tables."

the show was sold out to dealers, there were a couple turned away, glad to see the show in the summer months. normally the next show in in October. most of the dealers i talked to had a good show. btw it is not a "sam vinigar" show anymore, he has sold it off to his son.

with ebay's new fee structure/ paypals 1099. more dealers are moving off of ebay and back to flea markets and camera shows,
