Hello fellow Nikon lovers,

Over the past 6 months or so I've gone a little crazy with buying Nikon gear.. And now that I'm broke I would like to show off what I've aquired!

If you also have the Nikon bug, show off your gear. :)

(I'm not sure if a thread has been posted in the past similar to this one. If there has, I'm sorry! I couldn't find one.)

On the S2? It's the Pleasant "Auto-Up" close focus attachment.

I was never a member of NHS but I did have a nice little S2 (my prof pic) when I was 17! Shoulda become a member :bang:

I also had a black nikon F with a standard black prism and 50/1.2 ai-s but regrettably sold it. Wish I had pics of either one! They were beautiful to look at and especially to use.

Mine is an early black paint Nikkormat FTn. Came for peanuts with a probably original-to-it Panagor 28mm 2.5 non-AI lens in mint condition.

On eBay I picked up a first-type Nikkor 105mm 2.5 non-AI, the Sonnar design. It already had an original Nikon UV filter, and I found the correct hood too.

I love carrying the FTn and the 105mm with my Leica, it provides a 'spot' meter that I can read from the top plate when out shooting.

Tommorow I'll post a pic from the setup.

Thanks, Rance Eric! But needs a black paint SP 2005 to round it off, wouldn't you say? ;) And I wish I were able to give it more use. The 28mm Nikkor is a recent acquisition that I need to try out as soon as I can.

All the best, John

That would be the 135/2.8 the old Q model (superb lens).

"Heft".... No doubt. I've got motors and batteries for both of my F2's. I've had the shutters replaced in both of them (and one of my F3's) after years of photographing auto racing.
I've also carried a pair of F4's and a pair of F5's before I finally gave that stuff up and concentrated more on slower moving targets. Stuff more suited to Leica M photography.

These were my Great Uncle's cameras, when he died in '85, my parents received five cameras and some Nikkor lenses. There was one other F, a Nikkormat, and the lenses were 1980 or older, 24/2.8, 50/1.4, 135/3.5, 180/2.8, 200/4. They sold one F and the Nikkormat and lenses in the early 90's, probably before i came around in '92. So all that is left are the F's, FM and a 28/3.5. They all still work, and shoot with them occasionally.

I wasn't complaining, but rather just making a comment based on observation.
I gave up a long time ago worrying about what my equipment looks like, after deciding that its all just tools for taking pictures and not works of art. So as long as it is mechanically and optically sound, the aesthetics don't matter. Nicks, bumps, scratches and paint loss don't affect my pictures.

I have a couple of M6's with an assortment of Summicron M optics and an considering trying a Nikon S3+ 50mm f1.4. This would entail trading in one of my beautiful M6's which make the decision really hard although the fact that I haven't gone for it sort of is giving me the answer.

That is a very nice example of the first production run (1970), "Nippon Kogaku Japan" labeled, Nikkor-N, 35/1.4 lens. These are the 9-bladed version and are not all that common, with a total production run of only 2697 of the "NKJ" labeled lens (serial #'s began with 350001). They are a massive, solidly built lens, not like the lenses produced today. A true classic piece of Nikon history that is mated to another historic classic, the F2. Thanks for sharing them.

No photo, but my F3P was a real press camera that was owned by the newspaper "Newsday." I bought it just after it got a total overhaul just after it came back from Operation Desert Storm. It features some real nice brassing. This camera has Mojo.

All three of my F3's feature motordrives. The Noct-Nikkor with a F3 is a great-great camera.

Non-pristine Nikon gear? Well... Buzzardkid came over yesterday with this thing for parts (sans the Series E which I took from my FG; thanks Johan! Had lots of fun with it already!). It was seized solid, but I've somehow managed to un-seize it (which involved some fairly daft actions I would normally strongly advise against)... It looks like it's been through some pretty silly and probably non-photographic action:

Non-pristine Nikon gear? Well... Buzzardkid came over yesterday with this thing for parts (sans the Series E which I took from my FG; thanks Johan! Had lots of fun with it already!). It was seized solid, but I've somehow managed to un-seize it (which involved some fairly daft actions I would normally strongly advise against)... It looks like it's been through some pretty silly and probably non-photographic action:

Ah, but this is not a "collection" - it is an accumulation or stash! None are mint - though a couple are really clean - but I am working on that. I get nervous when they look too pristine. They are all being used - usually in batches of 3 or 4 with assorted lenses on them.

It's definitely an improvement over the regular release, required VERY little pressure.. but it's very easy to accidentally set it off... Unfortunately, I always waste a shot or two when it's on.

Does anyone know how much these are worth? EP marked, and it has the older rangefinder-style hollowed film advance. I think it's from mid 1961.

mynikonf2
04-06-2012, 16:32
Not sure that the "exchange post" marking adds value to a chrome body F. Without holding the camera it's hard to determine the condition but it appears to be a clean example, perhaps a KEH exec & not exec+ rating because of the small ding in the prism. KEH has a chrome in exec condition for $339. Not sure that they will actually get that. Anyway gives you a ballpark value.

keytarjunkie
04-06-2012, 18:59
Thanks! I'm probably going to keep it, I have a 70s Photomic FTn that I started on but this one feels much better to me, the advance lever is much more comfortable and smooth somehow, so I'll sell the FTn. And unless there's something special about the earlier focusing screens, I'm going to replace this one with a K screen from a F3. And then adapt a Contax Zeiss 50mm f/1.7 T* for it! Hah. A bit unethical, and I like the rendering of older Nikon lenses, but I haven't been satisfied with any of the 50/1.4's and the 5.8cm has been pushed out of my budget.

Just a hastily arranged shot from some time ago. I've added an FM, a busted FE, an EM, and a motorised F since then.

And a better look at the F2S. Sorry, the motorised F is in parts on the bench right now.

I bought the F2 in the summer of 1973. I also purchased a lens a month for a while. This of course was when I was single. As much as I still enjoy my F2 today, I wouldn't trade a day of my past 37 years with my soul mate for it.

Don't laugh. If any first-generation copact AF deserves to be called a classic, it is this one.

I've got two of them now. Paid $5 for the first one (with the brown case), and the second one was given to me (it has the plastic cover). Wonderful shooter.

Thank you, Paul. It has been a faithful and reliable camera. There have been a few bumps along the way. I had the camera and finder overhauled by our head bartender a few years back and now they are as good as new.

New lease of life for this thread :)

The old girl as seen some use but shoots faultlessly, wish the owner did the same.

That's about what it cost me back in '73, only in Norfolk, VA. Sadly, I sold it to an old high school buddy of mine.

Hah! Chris Livsey's black F2 looks darn similar to my F ...

... only I have the pre-AI Nikkor-H 85/1.8 fitted to it in this quick snap I made early today. I have one of the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 lenses as well. Not bad looking for a $30 body, eh? :-)

I just wish I had a plain prism for it, instead of the clunky inop TN finder.

I bet "in the day" they said just the opposite. My body was £65 only a couple of years back, no prism, that cost more than the body, but not by much as it has a touch of de-silvering (but new foam), but I'm a shooter. Sover Wong was the man for the prism, great NikonF2 guy.

Hello, wonderful collections.
I take advantage of this thread to ask if any of you knows a good repairman for my lens, W Nikkor C 1:1.8 f=3.5cm ltm.
The general aspect and mechanics are very fine, almost like new, but the images i get on my Leica are off, hazy even if the glass is cristal clear, no definition.
I am in Europe, France, but can send the lens anywhere if someone is qualified enough to bring this jewel back to what it is supposed to be.
Many thank's
Joël
