Hey - I don't know if anyone is interested in digital photography at all, but just in case I found a fun contest online at
www.ati.com/snapsharewin
It looks legit and there are a bunch of different categories you can submit your favorite photo in. You can win a lot of good prizes - but it just seems like a good way to see what other photographers are doing - good luck! :)

Thanks for the info!
Hmm, he just joined today, and the only thing he has posted is a pointer to a "contest" for which you have to give up your email address to enter...

We;ll know more if he/she ever uploads any images. Thanks for pointing that out, though. Reminds me of phone calls I get on my answering machine telling me I qualify for lowering my mortgage....but I don't own a house!

You don't just give up your email, folks. Read the official contest rules:
http://ati.promotions.com/photocontest/page.do?page=rules.html
3. OWNERSHIP/USE: Submission of any entry constitutes the entrant's (or, if en eligible minor, his/her parent's or legal guardian's) consent to irrevocably assign and transfer to the Sponsor all right, title and interest in the entry, including, without limitation, all copyrights. Entrant (or, if an eligible minor, his/her parent's or legal guardian's) agrees that Sponsor and its designees may exploit , edit, modify, and distribute the entry and all elements of such entry, including, without limitation, the names and likenesses of any persons or locations embodied therein, in any and all media now known or not currently known, throughout the world in perpetuity without compensation, permission or notification to entrant or any third party.
THAT SUCKS!

that's the problem with so many 'contests', they are really scams to collect tons of pics for very little money.
legit contests do not want out right ownership of your photos.

This one can be reached from ATI's home page. ATI graphics is a leading manufacturer of PC graphics cards. The license rights are getting pretty typical of online companies. Netscape uses the same language including any media yet discovered for anything loaded onto their website. How about using them for web hosting...

That's why I have a personal e-mail, a business e-mail, a work e-mail, a really personal e-mail, a junk e-mail, and an all-purpose e-mail...

Brian,
You say this is “getting pretty typical of online companies.” If it’s becoming typical, then people aren’t reading the rules before they enter. Here are some contest rules that respect your rights as the photographer:

Gabriel,
I’d hate to walk into a Best Buy store and see one of your beautiful photos of the Eiffel Tower being used to sell graphics cards knowing that they didn’t have to pay you a dime to use it! Furthermore, if they wanted to “photoshop” a chimp hanging from the iron work, they could do it without your permission.
People who put together “contests” like this really burn me up. Perhaps a significant number of entries showing extended middle fingers might encourage these "contest" promoters to change their rules. Sorry to sound crass.

This person has no interest in rangefinder cameras. The same message is being sent to other online forums:
