View Full Version : CLE framelines
Does anyone have a photograph or illustration of what the CLE framelines look like?
I'm asking because I'm considering adding an M-mount film camera to my M8. I have a 28 and a 50, and would like to use the 50 on film. The two options that fit in my budged are the CL and the CLE. The CL has built in 50mm framelines, but one hears of light meter not working quite frequently. The CLE doesn't have 50mm framelines, but has a longer rf base length, more advanced metering and rather convenient auto exposure.
So, if I could see a visual illustration of the CLE's framelines, I might be able to judge how well a 50mm could work (or not) on the CLE.
Or do you think I should rather get a CL for use with a 50mm lens?

Each camera has pluses and minuses.
The CLE has an electronic shutter, and as such won't function without batteries, or if the electronics die. It also has 28mm framelines, which will come in handy. Not sure what the repair options are for CLE electronics.
The CL is a mechanical camera -- if the batteries or meter dies, it will still work. If the meter is bad/dead, Sherry Krauter can replace it for you.
The CL doesn't have 28mm framelines. So you'll be using an accessory finder for accurate framing.
For what it's worth, I started with the M8 and went with the CL as my first film "M" -- but I don't have a 28mm, so that wasn't a concern. Later added an M3, which is the perfect camera for the 50mm in my opinion. Use the CL primarily with my 35 Lux now.

You might consider the Konika Hexinar.
According to Cameraquest: The 28 frameline is visible at all times. The 40 and 90 framelines appear or disappear according to mounted lens.
More here: http://www.cameraquest.com/cle.htm btw, the CLe meter is auto or Nothing.

I have the CLE and use russian collapsible 50mm with an LTM->M-Adapter. With the Adapter, I see the 90mm frame. For me, that works good.

I heard good things about it, but it's out of my budget, sadly.
So -- anyone have any photos or illustrations of the CLE framelines, or know where to find such info? Would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Google "minolta CLE user guide"
download it as a PDF (it is free)
look on p. 17 for a sketch showing the framelines

Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for!

Do you know what Sherry will charge to replace a CL's meter? (add postage)
BTW I sold a CL with faulty meter on fleabay once, it went for $40.
