View Full Version : Retina iiic Shutter Diagnosis?

Is there any way to manually cycle the shutter without the film advance lever on a iiic? Not sure if the stuck shutter is a shutter problem, or if I need to disassemble the top plate and look at the cocking rack assy.

I would really rather not tear into anything extra I don't need to.

No.
The shutter is cocked by the cogwheel inside the round thingy at 11 a clock on top of the shutter.

If the shutter doesn't cock it probably is the cocking rack that needs to be replaced. I don't know where you live, but there's a guy in Germany that use to sell them on e*bay. His username is mucmue64.

Right,,, I'm just still not sure if the shutter is jammed, or not being cocked. I guess the next thing is to pop the top and take a look at the rack.

Found the site, I guess the visegrips and hammer come out this weekend ;-)

Not sure if I hope it's just the rack, or a totally gummed up shutter.

(I'm an old hardware and electronics tech from the computer generated and analog microfilm days, I still have really small hammers ;-) )

Well,,, got it diagnosed over the weekend. Bad rack, and what feels like a really gummy shutter. Really can't cock it by hand without forcing. It's not over yet, but the trip to see the Wizzard is on hold for a bit. I'm good enought to do the rack replacement and timing using the notes on the Chris Sherlock page. So, it's looking like one of my many month projects. I may send the lens and shutter off by itself in the next couple of months if I can find a good rack.

Good idea. Remember mucmue64 on eBay. He didn't sell all the cocking racks he had the last time he had them out on "Buy it now". I bought two from him for future projects.

Ok,,, I'll keep an eye out for him. Seems like there was one other rack for sale last week as well.
