Well, may GAS got the better of me, and I picked a used Bessa III version from a forum member at an extremely fair price I feel. This camera’s shutter release is so quiet and motionlessness that I thought the shutter wasn’t snapping at first. I’d love to see samples of different types of film from this folder. I am in love with it.

Can some of you post samples from different types of film say print and slide? I'd love to see them from the RFF community.

No samples but we have some open box condition Fuji GF670s (Bessas before the rebranding) in the used department at B&H for around $1350. Light a fire to that GAS of yours and shoot some film!

Any Black versions?

BTW your Broadway, Brooklyn series is awesome. My old stomping ground. Still have family on Bedford Ave on the Norhside. What camera were you using for that series?

Wanted to see the RFF communities work; hopefully spark some conversation about the quality of the images posted, experiences/opinions during the shots, etc.

Wow, that's not a bad price at all, much more competitive to a used Mamiya 7 + 80mm. Here's a link; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800766098-USE/Fujifilm_16019089_GF670_Rangefinder_Folding_Camera .html

I'd still take a Mamiya all day over the GF670/Bessa, but if you're willing to sacrifice some robustness for portability I'm sure the lens won't disappoint.

Not going to post the same stuff again. Look for the "Update on Aussie Travelling Bessa" thread where a number of people gave their impressions - and their opinions. This is RFF after all!

Question: have any of you shot Ilford Delta 3200 at 1000?

Hasselblad ELX. It was about 2 years of shooting intermittently. I sold the Hassy and now own a Fuji GA645. But I'd rather have the GF670...can't afford it though because I preordered an X100. I'm exploring digital more right now.

If you go to <http://gallery.me.com/lmyoudale#100252> there are a few shots I took while testing the Bessa III. The first two mono are Delta 3200 at box speed and using the camera's meter.
I have other shots comparing the Bessa with my Rolleiflex but they're in another gallery. You can get there by backing up and finding the right set.

My shots are uploaded to flickr, so if you saw it, then there is not something new I can offer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/netog/sets/72157624690931443/.
Never used slide with this camera, mostly color and just 1 roll of B/W.
Portability is just the best with this camera. I can carry it in my laptop bag when I go to work.

When I bought the Bessa III it had a roll of Delta 3200 set at ISO 1000. The previous owner said he loved that combo.

Question: when you develop do you have to tell the lab to pull to 1000 or 1600? The previous owner told me he used Delta 3200 shot at ISO 1000 and he lets the lab develop regular. Does that sound right? I always thought that if you shot a roll, and say pushed the ISO, you had to indicate that when developing with the lab.

Yes, you definitely have to tell the lab to pull X amount of stops. If you shoot it at 1000 and say nothing however you'll still get useable results. Basically, underexposed negatives developed at 3200 iso.

You basically get this...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33946021@N04/5535735039/

... and most of the other Delta 3200 shots on my stream. I shoot it at either 1000, 1250 or 1600 and tell the lab to develop normal. I don't even tell them how I shot it. I've done this at two different labs with identical results. Most of the time I use 1,000. What you get is a nice separation of tones but a high ISO to work with. Where as if you push Tri-X to 1600, you will get a lot of blocking in the shadows, which I love also, but you don't always want to do that.

Edit: I should say that the one time I shot it at 1600 and told the lab to pull one stop, I didn't like the results... extremely low contrast was the result.

Folks, this is the gentleman I purchased my Bess III from, and might I say, it was one of the smoothest transactions I've had. John NYC is very good to purchase from.

John- where do you develop your film in NYC? I'm presently using Manhattan Color Lab on 20th. Street, but just dropped 8 rolls off at Walmart in LI. I read a thread in the FILM form here at RFF that the processing is .84 cents a roll. Not sure that is what the price will be though.

Thanks for the kind words!

Hands down my favorite lab in NYC is LTI...

http://ltiny.com/

They are a little more expensive than some of the other labs, but their work is stellar and they are NICE to you. There is no attitude in there. Just helpful as all get out and some of the cleanest negs I've ever seen.

Really? I used LTI when I was in NY and although they were not rude to me I don't think they were particularly nice. The place has no soul.
A photographer I know who used to live in NY recommended The Small Darkroom (http://www.smalldarkroom.com). They seem to be a bit more expensive than LTI, though.

I just looked and this lab you mention doesn't appear to do E6 processing. I shoot mainly E6 when I shoot 8x10. When I asked the main guy at LTI when they would give it up, he said they'd be the last lab to go in NYC.

One thing about the slides, though. The contrast seems to be very high. Perhaps this is due to using slide film in bright sunlight, but I wonder if this is compounded by my cheap Canon 9000F scanner's limited dynamic range?

Astia is a good choice:

I've been pleased with the new Portra400. You can dial in as much contrast as you like in PP. These are witha C330F http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1653266&postcount=998

Good to know.

I recently had CRC develop a few E6 rolls, they're online as Vista Imaging:

http://vistaimaginggroup.com/e-6-processing/

Super happy with how they came out and they do mail order. That's useful since I live out in the burbs. (Previously, I mailed the film across the country to Samy's, but I'd lose a week to shipping alone.)

I also had them make several R-Type prints. FSM, they're beautiful. I need to get more done. I wish I could find out more about R-Type prints.

I heard about them from Jim at MV Labs, where the GF interns:

Only just got mine, used it for a straightforward fashion story yesterday. Very happy with how the camera performs, focus is very accurate and I think the lens draws a beautiful image. This is on Portra 400.

RVP-50, scanned on Epson V750:

It's not like everyone owns an iPad, but I'm quite sure this image size is a little difficult to overview on any regular computer screen. Would it be a problem to downsize it to about the size of most other pictures posted?

It's an interesting shot though, kind of voyueristic (sp?) - the turtle adds a humorous detail :)

Love it, Dana.

From a job I did for a hotel & uniform designer here in London:

Love the direct work portraits, Olelovold. They have the sincerity of those by August Sander or Irving Penn. The last one, with its reflection, is especially warm.

Thanks. Yeah, Spring fire, Camarillo-Newbury Park to the coast, this month. Burned 44 square miles, all homes saved.

Dana, I blushed a bit at that - thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

Shot some urban landscapes the other day, on Portra 400, in a particularily bleak area of London called Brent Cross - most known for its very large and grim shopping centre. In a way it's a compliment to my previous series of trolleys (http://eriklovold.com/trolleys-1), which was photographed around the same area.

Olelovold: Interesting. These London photos could easily have been shot in Los Angeles. Except our concrete "rivers" wind across the city marked by grafitti.
