Do I need a hood with a 35mm summicron IV?

Do I need a hood with it?
Would it really make a difference?
It doubles the size of the lens and I have not used it enough to tell if it really helps.

I hope you won't find the answer to your question after you scratch the front element of this gem, which could happen much quicker than you think without a hood.
Hoods on my lenses have protected them more than once, and they do offer serious protection against sun light for sure.

Using a hood is a good idea because it can't hurt. Even with the hood on, my 0.72 VF'er on my M6 the framing is kinda perfect. Its still a small pocket camera even with the hood.

i hear what you guys are saying.
It has a UV filter on, so I am less worried about a scratch.
I am wandering more about glare.
I usllay have hoods on on all my stuff just for protection, but in this case compactness seems more interesting.

My prefered range of hoods is the old metal Nikon hoods. They are perfectly adapted to the lens they need to serve.
Sure if you have a fliter on it then the flare is increased...

I never use the hood because of the size. I use a filter all the time to protect the lens. I have some flare sometimes, maybe 1 frame every 5 rolls and it doesn't bother me much.

I don't use a hood. I keep a filter on the lens. Flare isn't a big deal on the 35 'cron. It happens. But not all the time. On the 50 'cron I have flare issues more often than I like but that's what the built in hood is for.

Take off the filter and put on the hood. Why spend all that money for a great cam and great glass then have the contrast blown out of a good picture just to save the size? You're not making sense.

Use the hood. I have owned alot of camera equipment and the hood for the 35 cron IV is the smallest hood i have used. The rectangular design makes it more effecient and smaller than a round hood. Also the hood will fit over a filter if you use a filter.
