I just bought a used Contax G1 kit to replace my current G1, which has taken a few hard knocks and I worry about its reliability.

The G1 also comes with a TLA 200, LowePro bag, filters, film. Pretty nice kit.

He says its an orange label in the film canister, but all info. I've found so far says the camera only has a silver label, or a green label - the green meaning it has been updated to work with the 21mm and 35mm. He seems very legit and has posted pics at the contax g site taken with this combo in the past so i don't doubt him. But does anyone know about this orange label? All my googling has been in vain, I can't find a single reference to it. Well, I'll have it in my hands in a day or two to test and he said he'd hold the check until then.

How about sending an email to tech support at Contax? If you can't find it on google that may be your only hope.

^^ What Rover said. I've heard of the orange label before- and that it was on an un-mod'ed G1. Betcha you are going to have to send it in to work with those lenses.

Of course, if you don't have those lenses...

Well, it comes with the 35mm which is one of those lenses. I hope I don't have to back to the seller/contax. I'll try the contax tech support.

Thanks,

Scott

http://contaxg.com/contaxuser/lenses.html#lensmods

Indicates that it's worth just trying the lens to see what happens. If "nothing," then you need to send it back, if "something," then it's been modified.

I wonder if that orange sticker is from a European repair depot or something of that sort? I hope, for you, that they ran out of green and were forced to use another color!

That is exactly what I'm hoping for JD! He's been using the lens, so it does *someththing*, I just want to see how well. I guess according to that link if the lens does something, its been modified, and there's no middle ground.
