I would like to ask if anyone (Tom ?) would know when the last chrome M4 was actually manufactured.
I know the last batch numbers where assigned in 11/1970, but when did the line stop?

Thanks

I have a very late Wetzlar chrome M4 no. 1273809; only about a hundred were built after it. I have it dated as 1970. Don't know the month. It was part of the inventory of our labs photo department and I recall that it was used by our photographer for some of the artwork for my PhD thesis.

When I got it after the department closed about 6 years ago it appeared to be equipped with M3 type levers.

I think the serials are assigned first, and then the cameras built and registered with the serials.
Assuming this is right, my question is: when did the last M4 of the 11/1970 batch produced?

A bunch of black ones were built circa. 1974 and 1975 w/ serial #s starting 138xxxx to 144xxxx. I believe these were the last ones.
