View Full Version : Elmar F 5cm 2,8 (satin crome)
Well then i just found it . ..
Elmar F 5cm 2.8 and in M mount.
And I was just looking for a Summicron. . . but of course this aint bad either.
So, any opinions, user complaints, images, ideas ?, if you have it IŽll like to know.
And as soon as posible as well, since i think the lens would be sold quite fast.
Think IŽll smell some Gas, did i mention the lens was in perfect condition ? ;)
Tell me.

edit : Me and ErnestoJL had a walkabout in Buenos Aires today, always good to have someone with you so you either can be pulled out of the store if you buys too much, . . or just borrow some more money :D
I could be wrong, but this lens is supposed to be a sort of Tessar design. Good for that sort of vintage feel. I would be interested in seeing some samples from this lens as well.
I have the modern version &, of course, it's a very good lens, albeit slow for "available darkness" shooters like myself (yes, it's a Tessar type--the only difference between an Elmar & a Tessar is the location of the aperture blades w/respect to the lens elements).

IIRC fellow Viennese member 'arthur2' has quite a few pics taken with that lens in his gallery (though the lens and camera info got lost during the gallery transfiguration...)

I would get it. I've got 2 Elmars, an old 5cm/f3.5 made in 1949 and a current one f2.8 made a couple of years ago. Both cracking lenses. I bet this one is too! :)

I have the latest Elmar-M. It is surgically sharp and contrasty. It renders beautiful clear images but not what I would call "traditional" (i.e., high resolution, low contrast). As might be expected, the tonality is very similar to that of a good Tessar (i.e., drop dead gorgeous), but it is not subject to the corner light falloff and distortion at the edges which plagues some Tessars.
Guess what i bought this morning 11:45 . . . :D
would post some pictures when i have some.
Lens looks fine, clean glass as far as i can se now, maybe cla in some years .. but who knows.
And now itŽs time going out taking some photos.

What a wonderfull feeling it is!!
Congratulations !!
Ernesto
Great! Good luck with the lens! :)
so far so good . . what amazes me most at the moment is the feeling and the built of the lens.
Scary. . . . .
Think IŽll have to hide my Mastercard, old lenses have a nice feeling, thought I saw a 90 mm Elmarit-M f:2.8 in chrome somewhere on the round . . . Luckily my Spanish is not good enough for that store, so there i have it, finally a reason why to study some more :D

Hello Clogwog!
Well, for the Photography shops, prices are in general terms from 20 to 30% less than in EU or US allways in US funds. In local currency can be even better sometimes. It all depends on what are you looking for. Some collectible items go for 10% lower prices and some others may be bought for less, but there is no warranty, they are "as is".
There are however other ways to buy interesting equipment at even lower prices, but again, it all depends on what do you want to buy.
Many of the shops owners speak something that can be called "spanglish" so understanding each other wouldnŽt be a serious problem.
If I can be of help, just PM. Actually I have enough time to take a walk and be tempted also...
Besides: GAS relief would only be attained by another dreadfull syndrome: wallet exhaustion... so be carefull!
Best regards
Ernesto

sometimes cheaper than Norway and sometimes a bit to expensive, for instance a Canon 50mm 0.95 for 700 usd, but then again IŽv never seen it for sale any other places.
and wellcome to BsAs . . . let me know if you would have some time for camera and coffee.
